Social Media for Gardeners, Community Organisations and Green Social Enterprise

As part of our package of events for Bristol Food Connections our founder Sara Venn, will be sharing her knowedge and experience of using social media platforms for positive change. Whether that is for you as an individual or as a collective voice for a community or a business, there will be the opportunity of learning about how to get the best from all the main social media platforms, as well as creating networks of like minded people online.

Attendee will need to bring a smart phone or tablet with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram downloaded and ready with the account you will be working on during the workshop. This will be a hands on, practical workshop that will concentrate mainly on the 3 platforms mentioned, as well as email marketing and how to work with them all together to create a buzz around what you are doing, whilst remaining in a positive and change focused space.

Success With Seeds

Following on from the success of this course earlier in the year, we will be running it one more time during Bristol Food Connections Week.

We will look at sowing seeds of many varieties, both edible and ornamental, how to keep your seedlings alive, when to pot them on, and how to ensure you get great plants from your seed sowings, that are productive and beautiful

Design Your Community Space

As a part of the 2018 Bristol Food Connections Programme we are offering a range of courses and workshops to support people in their growing story.

This workshop will support designing a sustainable community space, from the initial idea, to engaging with the wider community, local businesses and the local authority or landowner, to create a space in your community that is loved and respected by all.

Focusing on the Incredible Edible model of the 3 plates of community, business and learning, key topics for discussion will be

-encouraging bottom up community empowerment

-designing with the community

-ensuring full community buy in

-sustainabilty.

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in creating change in their community as a part of the community, and for anybody with an interest in supporting that, be it professionally or as an individual. There will be a section on designing the garden to ensure it is a sustainable and manageable space but that is not it’s main focus. It will be lead by our founder and project lead, Sara Venn.

Hartcliffe City Farm Work Party

Come join us at our regular Friday work party at Hartcliffe City Farm, where amongst other things, we’ll be potting on plants, sowing seeds and hopefully doing some strimming.

Why not join us for an hour or two and spend some time at this great city farm, right on the edge of the Sundry Slopes?

Everyone is more than welcome, but under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cob Pizza Oven Weekend Workshop

Our workshop facilitator, Luke, will guide participants through the different stages of making a cob based pizza oven from beginning to end.

The weekend will consist of learning through the actions of actually making a pizza oven on site at the garden at Hartcliffe City Farm, and is a great intoduction to practicalities behind making these amazing ovens. Whether you want the experience to support an oven in your garden or within a community space, you’ll learn all you need to know to be able to share those skills yourselves.

The cost of the workshop includes all materials, tools etc, along with tea, coffee and snacks, but bring your own lunch! If you have any questions about the course please feel free to email info@ediblebristol.org.uk and we will do our best to answer them for you!

Making Raised Beds from Pallets Workshop

This great course will be a practical, hands on learning experience, making raised beds in The Secret Garden at Avonmouth Station.

The workshop will include how to choose the perfect pallet, how to ensure your beds are safe and sturdy, where to source your pallets from as well as some practical work around the best uses of raised beds in gardens, allotments and in the public realm. At the same time the group will make a large raised bed that will be left on site for the Avonmouth community to use.

Because we want you to get the best experience possible, this workshop has limited numbers so do get your tickets before they are all gone!!

Using Willow In The Garden

Come along and learn lots about how to use willow in the garden. We will be concentrating on fedging,( willow hedges) but our workshop leader, Luke, will also talk about all the other varied and exciting things you can do with willow, from making plant supports to building structures! We’ll discuss using live willow, how to keep it under control and what a great addition it is to any garden or growing space, large or small.

Ever wondered how to make successful compost bins from recycled pallets?

Our Sara Venn will be running this course at Hartcliffe City Farm where she will share her horticultural knowledge of seed sowing, potting on and keeping small plants alive, ensuring the become productive. Pest and diseases, timings and good practice will all recovered along to what to do if things go wrong.

Not only will you learn loads about seed sowing, but you’ll also have the opportunity to sow a variety of seeds to take home with you.
