Soils of Bristol
You are warmly invited to this groundbreaking event on 18th July 2015
This will bring the people of Bristol together to speak up for the future of our soils and jointly create a Declaration for Soil which will help guide future policy and decision making.
This day is part of the incredible Soil Culture @ Create arts, food and community festival launching this Saturday 4th July. It will be a feast for the senses, the mind and the belly! Feed Bristol will also be part of this celebration on 4th July from 11-2pm, celebrating the living soils of Bristol’s Blue Finger with the One Day: Day One -Resilience Dome.
2015 – International Year of Soils – is the year we must face the catastrophic decline of UK and global soils with shared concern and common purpose.
Globally, we’re all dependent on soils every day for food, shelter, clothing, fresh air and a balanced and predictable climate.
We can do something to help!
So, what will happen on 18th?
Walk and Talk for Soil 11.30am – 2pm. Family friendly walk from City Centre to Create Centre (bring wheelbarrows of soil! Bring veg!) This brings the voices of people together for soil: What does soil mean to you? What do you know/love/feel about it? What do we want for our soils? What do we need to do/change to create this? Every contribution will feed into the making of the Declaration. Meet those working in, with and for soil in Bristol. Make connections, share experiences and solutions.
City Soil Forum 3.30 – 5.30pm focussed workshops: deepening, shaping, distilling and adding to all contributions made during the walk and talk. Bring your particular expertise / angle / idea to ensure the Declaration for Soil will be a groundbreaking document that represents our hopes, dreams, possibilities and solutions for a future underpinned by healthy soil.
Let me know if you’d like to take part in the Forum as space will be limited.
The Declaration for Soil will be an experiment in people-led policy development. It will set a precedent for other cities to follow and be brought to the World Soil Forum in Glasgow in 2022. This is an important opportunity for the people and organisations of Bristol to make their mark on the future of the soils on which we depend and create a real, lasting legacy for Green Capital year.
Allotment Banquet! Feasting on the food grown in our home soil. Deliciously prepared with love by the Soil Sisters. With live music to feast to. 6pm
