Millennium Square Work Party

Come along and help us to tidy up the herb and soft fruit bed in our Millennium Square Urban Allotments. Over the summer this bed has become a bit wild, and now is the time to pull it back and remind it just who is in charge!!

We love our gardens in Millennium Square and we hope you do too! But we do need some help to keep them well maintained so do come along to one of our work parties and find out how you can get involved….No skills required of course, just a bucket load of enthusiasm!!

Millennium Square Work Party

Come along and help us plant more crops and maintain the beds that are already planted in the urban Allotments in Millennium Square!! Beans, chillies, potatoes, cabbage, spinach, peas and more are already growing but we hope to add later summer crops to the beds at this work party!

We’ll be there from 10-2 so pop along any time between those times and we will get these gardens filled with goodies!

The Urban Food Trail Relaunch!

Veg tourism?

Is it a thing?

Well in Incredible Edible Todmorden for years there have been people visiting in order to walk their Green Route and meet with the folks that work so hard to keep the propaganda beds and gardens so beautifully kept all year round. People have visited from as far afield as New Zealand and Japan and leave inspired and full of ideas about how to take Incredible Edible back to their communities. They call this vegetable tourism! When we very first began thinking about the Urban Food Trail, we very much had this in mind and over the last year to eighteen months, we have had visits to walk the trail from other Incredible Edible groups, visiting dignitaries from abroad, students and researchers and people living in Bristol who want inspiration for their own gardens and community projects.

A few months ago we were awarded some funds from the National lottery to enable us to have a new map made of our Urban Food Trail along with leaflets of the map for people to use whilst walking the Trail. The map was illustrated by a team led by Dave Bain, including Hannah Bailey, Dawn Cooper and designer Chris Woodward. This map will be complete shortly and we will be relaunching the trail on March 9th, with a work party at Millennium Square and the opportunity to walk the Urban Food Trail with our founder, Sara Venn.

Diversity in Millennium Square

Once again we need your support!!

We have once again been successful in getting through to the vote on a Bags of Help grant from Tesco and we need you to help us by voting for us when you are in store!! The money will go towards creating a bed at Millennium Square that will speak of the diversity of our city, its amazing multiculturalism and some of the extraordinary cuisines that we have across Bristol.

Chillies, okra, beans, amaranth, pumpkins and squash, lablab beans, long beans and locust beans will jostle together along with crops of greens rarely seen in the UK. As usual the bed will be both beautiful and productive and we will be consulting with our friends at 91 Ways about the project!!

if we get the full amount we will also be producing a free cookbook which we will make available to all libraries, school and community groups across the city that offer recipes both from the bed in Millennium Square and all our other beds across the city. The recipes will be a mixture from chefs that we know and trust to recipes we make all the time in our own homes.

So can we please ask that if you shop in the below branches of Tesco, you ask for a token and pop it into our box?
